Event Info
For two days in July, the unique Lass O'Gowrie pub in Manchester will be transformed into retro gaming central, with numerous classic arcade machines, computers and consoles playing host to a variety of competitions. We're also hosting the Homebrew Coding Geekend, a meeting of some of the sharpest minds in the homebrew programming and independent game developer community.
The event is also part of a much wider initiative we run every July – Lassfest so do feel free to dip into the many other great activities on offer!
Programme of events
At present, the final programme has yet to be signed off but we expect it to contain the following ingredients
- Homebrew coding geekend, with coders working on live games supported by industry pros from the day.
- Competitions!
- Stand-up comedy, with an 80’s and gaming tinge, naturally. Acts confirmed to date include stand-up comedian and videogame designer Graham Goring, [Saturday] who performs an audio-visually enhanced stream of rapid-fire gags which skips gleefully through the videogame infused life of an emotionally stunted manchild who relates to Pac-Man better than women. "...the gags-per-minute rate is impressive...truly memorable lines..." Chortle. Confirmed for Sunday is Danny Pensive
- Themed burlesque routines[Saturday, 6/7pm ish]. We look forward to welcoming Miss Sweet Cherry Kiss who does a Pac Man Boogie routine and Ginger La Rouge, who does a Sonic the Hedgehog routine
- Screenings of 80’s themed classic TV and film [all weekend].
- 80s themed quiz [Sunday], with a mix of gaming and non-gaming rounds.
- Talks from vintage coders and industry pros from the day, celebrating the cream of 80’s gaming. Featured guests are likely to include (subject to work commitments) Andy Walker, Jim Bagley, Kevin Edwards, Kenton Price and Tim Follin.
We’ll be back nearer the time to confirm the order of service, no fear!
